3. Withstand Voltage Test
The withstand voltage test, also known as a hipot test, verifies whether the connector or cable assembly can handle a specified voltage without breakdown.
It helps confirm electrical safety and insulation performance, especially for power cables, hybrid connectors, and high-reliability industrial applications.
4. Contact Resistance Test
Contact resistance affects signal quality and power transmission efficiency. If the resistance is too high, it may cause heating, voltage drop, signal loss, or unstable equipment operation.
For connectors, stable contact resistance is a key indicator of reliable connection performance.
5. Pull Force and Crimp Quality Test
For crimped terminals and cable assemblies, pull force testing checks whether the wire and terminal are firmly connected.
Poor crimping may not be visible from the outside, but it can cause intermittent connection failure during vibration, movement, or long-term use.
6. Shielding Continuity Test
For shielded cables, the shielding layer must be properly connected to the connector or grounding structure. Shielding continuity testing helps confirm that the cable can reduce electromagnetic interference.
This is very important for machine vision cables, industrial Ethernet cables, encoder cables, and signal cables used near motors or automation equipment.
7. Appearance and Dimension Inspection
Visual inspection is also necessary. It checks connector housing, pins, cable jacket, labels, molding, screws, shells, and overall workmanship.
Dimension inspection may include cable length, outer diameter, connector size, pin position, and assembly structure.
8. Application-Specific Tests
Depending on the project, additional tests may be required, such as waterproof testing, salt spray testing, vibration testing, bending test, temperature cycling, or insertion and withdrawal force testing.
These tests are usually selected based on the actual working environment and customer requirements.
Why Testing Matters
Testing is not only about finding defects. It is about reducing risks before the product reaches the customer.
For industrial connectors and cable assemblies, good testing can help:
1️⃣ Improve connection reliability
2️⃣ Reduce wiring errors
3️⃣ Prevent signal loss and communication problems
4️⃣ Improve product consistency
5️⃣ Support long-term equipment operation
6️⃣ Reduce maintenance and downtime risks
