IP: Stands for Ingress Protection (protection against the entry of foreign objects).
First digit (6) – Dust protection: Completely dust-tight. No dust or fine particles can enter the connector housing, even under pressure.
Second digit (7) – Water protection: Protection against temporary immersion. The connector can be safely submerged in 1 meter of clean water for up to 30 minutes without water ingress or damage.
Key Notes
IP67 ≠ IP68: IP67 is for short-term water immersion; IP68 is for continuous water immersion, with the depth and duration of submersion defined by the manufacturer, and it generally offers higher protection.
Not for continuous underwater use: IP67 is suitable for short-term rain exposure, water splashing during cleaning, and humid condensation, but it is not designed for long-term submersion in water.
No protection against other hazards: IP ratings do not cover protection against corrosion, ultraviolet radiation, mechanical shock, or explosion.
Typical Applications
Factory automation (robots, sensors)
Outdoor equipment (traffic lights, surveillance cameras)
Automotive (on-board sensors, wiring harnesses)
Marine & offshore (navigation devices, wind turbines)
